Experiences with High cholesterol

Even in small doses simvastatin is poisonous for me! Started on 40 mg on the doctor's advice. After a few weeks: muscle pain in strange places: feet, shoulders, mostly neck pain. Prescribed by the cardiologist alongside Crestor (I can manage 5 mg fine, as opposed to simvastatin) to get my cholesterol even lower. Was 2.1 but needed to get to 1.8 or lower. I was given this pill as a supplement to my main cholesterol suppressant Zocor which was later replaced by Crestor. (see my experiences about that). Seems to work. No noticeable side effects. Great little pill.

After switching to another brand of atorvastatin, it would seem that the Lipitor one causes excessive itchiness on my legs and noticeably over-relaxed muscles. In all likelihood, this is caused by the excipients in the capsules. Oh, and the same side effects appear with panatol. Is the same stuff used in the coating?

Lots of muscle and joint pain, worsening condition. Until recently I was walking 5km in an hour twice a week. Now when I go up one flight of stairs at home I'm done in. Started off using Lipitor but that was a lot worse and after talking to the cardiologist switched to Crestor but now the long nerves in my arms and legs are deteriorating which means I now need to use a stick and orthoses on both legs.

Definitely worked as my cholesterol has gone from 267 to 188 but the side effects that go alongside it ... but after a few days of taking Q10 100 mg as well they did reduce the side effects to be bearable, need to take a course for 3 months and then have my cholesterol measured again which is why the doctors prescribe it without Q10 in the beginning, seems like a mystery to me if they know in a...

At a relatively young age I underwent testing for increased cholesterol (triglyceriden) because there is a hereditary variant in my family (father and grandfather). After I was diagnosed I started on this medicine straight away, 40 mg. Haven't had a single side effect and since then my cholesterol levels have been fine.

Got Simvastatin first of all but it gave me gut pains and made me really nauseous as well as light-headed and muscle pain in my arms and lower back. The Pravastatin makes me really nauseous and light-headed and a bit of lower back pain.

I've suffered with some degree of tinnitus for years, but it's bearable. But now, after about 5 weeks of taking this medicine, the noise has grown to an unacceptable level. I stopped taking it straight away and hope that the noise level reduces somewhat. I'm 80 years old and I'd like to make it to 85 so life should be liveable. At the moment, every day is just too much for me.

I've had really bad lower back pain for years. My normal gait was limping. I needed to sit down after walking for about 2 metres. The pain radiated throughout my whole leg. I've been taking statins since my 20s because of dangerously high cholesterol levels, over 10. I'm not overweight, run 3 times a week and walk a lot. Switched from crestor to simvastatin because of the costs. Been on it 4 months but stopped for 2 weeks to see if the problems go away: pain in my thighs, difficulty walking, weak feeling in my legs. So yeah, then on to the next medicine!

I have given my opinion regarding using Crestor (rosuvastatin) prescribed by my cardiologist after severe side effects from sim/atorvastatin. I started using on 20/04. Was on holiday 24/04 when I got severe muscle pain and I couldn't get hold of my doctor. The next day I carried on taking it and had no more problems with it. Perhaps the severe side effects because the atorvastatin hadn't worked...

After having an angioplasty in 2005, the cardiologist prescribed first Lipitor and then simvastatin.
